Travel Blog ~ McCall, Idaho 2017

Thursday, September 7, 2017

So I am finally getting around to posting about a little getaway we had, in April...life gets busy, I'll be the first to admit it.

Idaho. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place, and really if we drive in any direction for about 90 minutes, the landscape can be completely different from the next.

McCall is about 2.5 hours away from where we live, so it's a popular destination for an easy little getaway.
In the summer, the large lake that McCall surrounds is packed with people. On the 4th of July it is so fun to watch the fireworks display over the lake. Camping, boating, fishing, and all sorts of water sports, makes this a hot spot for vacationers. There are many hotels and rentals available, or if you like to rough-it, there are several campsites around. Hiking, biking, and checking out the local breweries are a few other activities to do. Summertime is a great time to visit McCall.

In the winter, the Winter Carnival draws thousands of people from all over the valley. Ice sculptures line the streets, and are judged for top place. Brundage Mountain is a popular ski hill that many people visit too. There is sledding at the activity barn. Iceskating downtown. Snow-shoeing. A dip at a nearby hot springs. It's no wonder McCall is such a popular destination in the winter. Not to mention all the SNOW. McCall gets tons of it.

We decided to get a condo with my parents and go up there for Easter to spend some quiet time together, away from the hustle and bustle. It was off season up there at that time, so there wasn't a whole lot of people or traffic. We had such a nice time.

Deer came and visited us almost every morning and evening. Once they even came right up to our patio for a little snack!
While we were there we walked around and stopped in at a bunch of fun little shops. There isn't a lot to do up there in the off season, but we still managed to keep ourselves busy.
We stopped by the cutest little sewing and notations shop, Huckleberry Patches. I could have looked around in that shop for hours. They had the most beautiful hand dyed wool <3 the atmosphere and decor was beautiful, oh and there was so much cute fabric!
One afternoon, Alan and I drove around the lake to take in the sights and then we both got amazing massages at Spa de Sol. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind.
We took a few photos right outside our condo after Easter dinner. I was such a beautiful day. And because we stayed in a condo, we had a fun kitchen which means we had a full blown ham dinner with all the sides and fixin's, I pigged out every day on the leftovers, it was delicious!
My dad and Alan ending up leaving Sunday evening so they could go to work and my mom and I ended up staying a couple more days.

We spent our mornings and afternoons shopping, swimming, sightseeing, taking pictures, and antique shopping. There is the coolest antique store inside The Pancake House <3, you definitely need to see it.
One morning we got pedicures at The Cove Spa. I'm not sure what was in the water, but it smelled delicious! And the scrub that was on my legs was amazing!
In the evenings we curled up on the couch, snacked, and binge watched movies. I got her all caught up on some of my favorites, The Notebook, Pride and Prejudice, A Walk to Remember, The Time Traveler's Wife, and so many more. Seriously we watched at least 3 movies a night. We laughed and cried, and just soaked up some good ol' quality time together.

When we left to come home our adventure didn't end.
I have always wanted to stop at Rainbow Bridge and take pictures for as long as I can remember. But usually there is so much traffic on the highway and we're usually in a hurry, it just doesn't work out. This time it was just my mom and I on our way home. Since we are cut from the same cloth, we both LOVE taking pictures, we made the time to stop at every little place we've ever wanted to stop, and we took pictures. Lots of pictures. I couldn't be happier.
The river was running at full force and it was awesome to see. In a few spots where we stopped the ground actually rumbled with the force of the water. We had record snowfall last winter which made for an incredible amount of water that ran down the rivers this spring and summer.

This was such a fun way to end our little Easter getaway. Camera in hand and a full heart <3
Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you have a sweet day :)
