Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Tuesday, February 2, 2016

As Valentine's Day approaches, I always do lots of crafting and baking, there's just something so fun about little heart shaped things. I love creating fun, sweet things in my kitchen, and my husband enjoys that he has a constant flow of dessert.

Today I made a super easy, super festive dessert. Nothing says Valentine's Day like some chocolate covered strawberries! Best thing yet is that I didn't pay $30 for the designer ones either. I know mine aren't perfect, but they taste delicious, are super cute, and were fun and easy to make.
These only took about 20 minutes to make and cost about $6. I ended up making 20 covered strawberries. I found the strawberries for $2, and bought two bags of chocolate candy melts for $2 each.

Just look at those pretty things! You can totally make these look how ever you want, it just takes a little practice, and if it doesn't turn out the way you wanted it to, just eat the evidence!
Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Ingredients:
  • 1 pint of large firm Strawberries, you don't want soft berries
  • 2 small bags of Chocolate, dark & white, I used Wiltons Candy Melts
  • Food Coloring (optional)
  • Wax Paper
  • Cookie Sheet
  • 2 small plastic Storage Bags
  • 2 Microwave Safe Bowls
  • 2 Forks
Directions:
  1. Wash and dry the strawberries really well. The chocolate will not stick to damp berries.
  2. Pour one bag of the chocolate into a bowl and microwave for 1 minute at 50% power. Stir and microwave for 30 second intervals until chocolate is melted.
  3. Dip half of the strawberries into the chocolate and let the excess drip off before placing them on a wax paper lined cookie sheet. Place them in the refrigerator for a couple minutes to set up.
  4. Pour the remaining melted chocolate into a storage bag and place in a cup of hot water to keep the chocolate soft.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 with the other bag of chocolate.
  6. Once the strawberries are set, remove them from the refrigerator.
  7. Cut a small hole in the corner of the storage bags, add a little food coloring if desired and mix, and drizzle the remaining chocolate on top of the strawberries.
  8. Place them back in the fridge for a couple minutes so they set and you're done.
  9. Enjoy eating them right away or store in the fridge up to a week loosely covered.

I hope you have a great day! Thank you for stopping by :)
