2018 Cleaning & Organizing Challenge Week 11 ~ Appliances

Monday, March 12, 2018

Whoo hoo, we're into week 11 of this challenge! This week we are going to work on our large appliances. Scrubbing and deep cleaning them from top to bottom, inside and out.
We'll be focusing on the the stove, microwave, and dishwasher. Last week we worked on deep cleaning the fridge. So by the end of this week, all of the appliances in the kitchen should be sparkling clean.
Every nook and cranny should be touched and cleaned. For all of my stainless steel appliances I use my Norwex cloths to clean the exteriors. The Enviro Cloth and Window Cloth work perfectly to clean and shine.

Week 11 Challenge: Appliances

If your microwave is in desperate need of attention, start by filling a glass bowl with water (about 2 cups) and lemon juice or vinegar, put it into the microwave, and start it, let it go for about 5 minutes and then let it sit in there and steam for another 5 minutes. Anything that's baked on should wipe aways easily. I use vinegar water, an all purpose cleaner, and an microfiber cloth to clean out the interior. Wash the glass turntable in warm soapy water. If your microwave hangs above the stove, spare the underside with a mild degreaser/all purpose cleaner and let it sit for a few minutes. Remove the filters and place into boiling vinegar water to loosen grease and clean them easily. Wipe the underside of the microwave and replace the filters. Clean and shine the exterior.

*Tip: Buy a microwave food cover for your plates and bowls. It makes clean up SOOO much easier and keep your microwave SOOO much cleaner. Goodbye food splatter. All you have to do is throw the cover in the dishwasher when it gets dirty.
For the oven, if you have a self clean option, run that first. Next, you can use oven cleaner, or baking soda & vinegar, scratch free scratchers, and a whole lot of elbow grease. Clean the interior and scrub off any baked on food. Rinse it well. Clean the racks the same way. (Some oven cleaners are too harsh and can damage your racks, you might want to test it first before you spray down the who thing.) Replace the racks and admire your shiny new oven :)

*Tip: Lay down some tinfoil or you can buy an over liner, and cover the bottom of the oven. When it gets dirty and food spills on it, just throw it away and replace instead of scrubbing yourself to death.

For the stove top, I remove all of my gas grates and burner covers and scrub those clean in the sink. I spray a degreaser on the top, wipe it clean, and replace my grates and covers. Clean and shine the exterior. If you have coils, make sure you clean underneath the cook top and clean the warming drawer. If you have a glass top, ufse a scratch free scratcher and a razor blade to remove any burnt on food. I always loved the Weiman glass top cleaner to clean the cooktop when I had one. Rinse it clean and shine it up with some glass cleaner.
For the dishwasher, start by cleaning the bottom of it out. Clear it of any leftover food and build-up that's usually hiding in the bottom. Clean the filters, screens, and the food trap. Rinse them clean and replace. I just used a microfiber cloth and vinegar water to wipe down the interior, the inside of the door, and the seals. Affresh, Finish, Glisten are all dishwasher cleaners/disinfectants that you can purchase at the grocery store and run trough a heavy cycle to clean the dishwasher. Refill the drying agent, if needed. Clean and shine the exterior.
Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you have a sweet and productive week!
